NESD planning to extend Carrot River, Gronlid boundaries

There could be an adjustment to the attendance boundaries for two groups of schools in the division.

The Carrot River boundary could see a small shift west, while the Gronlid boundary could shift slightly east to add a few quarter sections in the Ratner district.

Don Rempel, the division's director of education, said after the March 21 board meeting the shift will affect around a half-dozen families in the Carrot River region, which will be going there instead of Nipawin, while the Gronlid change will make it so a family can go to Gronlid for Kindergarten to Grade 8 and Tisdale for Grade 9 to 12.

The director of education said the changes will be advertised in local newspapers and the public would have a chance to talk to the board about any issues they might have with the change.

“It’s just doing our due diligence, that we don’t change a line without the public being aware of it.”

Gronlid sticking with calendar

Gronlid Central School will be sticking with the regular school calendar next year when it becomes an elementary-focused school instead of going with an alternative calendar that will have longer days but shorter years.

“It was a choice left up to the community,” said Luke Perkins, the division’s chair.

White Fox School is the only one that uses such an alternative calendar within the division.
