EAST CENTRAL — A change in how extracurricular bus travel is booked will give the Horizon School Division a better understanding of how the service is used.
Instead of making bookings at the bus garage in Foam Lake, schools now book through central office.
“That's going to allow us to budget more effectively for extracurricular travel,” said Kevin Garinger, the division's director of education.
Since March, when the new booking system was implemented, there have been 300 bookings for extracurricular bus travel, with the buses travelling almost 50,000 kilometres.
Garinger said schools pay around $1 per kilometre, while the total cost of transportation is around $2 per kilometre.
