As the city grows, so do local businesses.
Farm World in Humboldt will be constructing a new building on the outskirts of the city on Hwy. 5 east this spring.
The building will be larger than their current location. It will be a 32,000 square foot building on a 10-acre yardsite. The building will have 16,000 square feet of shop and the rest will be used for office space and a parts warehouse.
"There are a couple reasons we are building," said Jeff Saufert of Farm World.
"Number one, our business has expanded so much over the last number of years since the current building was built that it is difficult to function in an efficient manner because the equipment has grown so much and it's hard for the building we have to accommodate the equipment.
"Number two, we set some fairly aggressive growth plans for the future and a new building is going to help us accommodate those growth plans and make us more efficient."
The company had plans to build at a new location for a number of years, but an accident pushed back their plans.
"This is a long time coming," said Saufert. "We were actually looking at building a new building a couple years ago but our store in Kinistino burned down and that fire actually pushed us back a little bit, by a couple years."
Now they are ready to start construction in the spring to create a better experience for both their customers and employees. They hope it will be completed for a spring 2013 move-in date.
"We're looking to create a better work environment for our staff and to create a better perception of the business as a whole - not only for customers we are offering service to, but (for our employees) as well making a better place to come to work."
Although they are expanding their store, they may not offer new services, just perfect the services they already offer.
"It will help us accommodate future growth and provide better service with more space, with better technology," said Saufert. "Overall, a new building is going to allow us to grow and expand in the future."
The new building will give the company more space for offices, administration space and an expanded parts warehouse.
"We are looking to add new staff, so new building will accommodate that," said Saufert. "It will also allow us to store more inventory and allow us to have a larger parts warehouse, so we will have more parts available in peak seasons."
The company owns 68 acres and will be using only 10 acres for their new site.
"We are also going to be developing, over the next couple years, the rest of that property," said Saufert. "There is going to be other commercial property for sale as we develop it over the next couple of years."
