The Royal Canadian Legion Speers-Hafford Branch No. 116 held a Remembrance Day service at the Hafford Communiplex, Nov. 11.
More than 100 people attended.
Rolland Pelletier marched in the colours and recited the Act of Remembrance To Our Heroic Dead.
Attending were air cadets led by Sec. Lt. Sherry Legacy and the RCMP represented by Cst. David Horton.
Rev. Father Taras Udod gave the invocation and scripture reading. Father Udod blessed the new cenotaph.
The Speers United Church Choir provided the service with a hymn and the Lord's Prayer.
Jean Epe gave the tribute to the veterans.
Frankie Yasieniuk read a letter from Prime Minister Stephen Harper.
Rosthern-Shellbrook MLA Scott Moe laid a wreath on behalf of the Government of Saskatchewan. Individuals, businesses and organizations laid a total of 57 wreaths/crosses.
In Flander's Field was read by Katrina Kindrachuk.
This year, 203 essays, poems and posters were entered into the competition sponsored by the Royal Canadian Legion. The Helen Skotniski Awards were also distributed to the winning students.
Lunch was served by the Hafford Communiplex Catering Group following the service. The Royal Canadian Legion and Remembrance Day Committee appreciate the support of those who attended the service, all the students who took part in the competitions, the catering group and all those who helped in the creation of the new cenotaph.
