Humboldt residents in need of clothes, from newborn to size 16, now won't have to travel to Saskatoon for a good selection - that selection is right in their backyard, with the opening of new store Born Fabulous on Aug. 7.

The idea for Born Fabulous came about because owner Aimee Vetter, who has two children, saw the need for a store after she struggled with finding baby gifts.

"There's such a need for a store like this. Everyone needs to travel to Saskatoon if you want to get anything," store owner, Kristin Hauber said.

The store carries brands such as Roxy, Quicksilver, DC, Buffalo, and Silver.

It's a new store in Humboldt, located in the Geschaft Centre. The location was chosen because of its good visibility off the highway and lots of parking. Since the store is in the old U Weight Loss Clinic, a lot of demolition and renovations were required before actually moving product into the store.

"We had to do complete demolition and a bunch of renovations," Hauber said. "It was a real process and we're really excited to be open."

The process of opening the store took about a year. Hauber and Vetter began looking into different brands and locations. They worked on their inventory in February in order to open in the fall. They settled on the Geschaft Centre location in January and then had the grand opening.

The celebrations started with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, and then kids were free to play in a bouncy castle, get their faces painted, or receive a balloon animal from Saskatoon's Warren Johnson of Balloon Funn. There was a barbecue in the evening for attendees.

Hauber and Vetter are hopeful that the store is a good addition to Humboldt.

"It adds just a better variety, something different, a good price point, and we hope to bring that in for Humboldt parents just so they don't have to travel as much to Saskatoon," Vetter said.
