The Battlefords AAA Sharks female midget hockey team will have a new coaching staff behind the bench in 2013-14.

It was announced that Ashley Gauthier is the new head coach for the upcoming season. The announcement was made Sunday by the Battlefords Female Hockey Association.

Gauthier is an alumnus of the AAA Sharks. She was assistant captain with the club during the 2006-07 season and led the team in total goals, total points and penalty minutes.

She has played all her minor hockey with the Battlefords Midget Hockey Association and Battlefords Female Hockey Association. Gauthier went on to play junior hockey with the Saskies in Saskatoon, and since 2009 has played for Lashburn in senior hockey.

Gaultier also had a successful tenure with the SASKCAN summer hockey program as a player and a captain, travelling to Boston, New York and Prague for major tournaments.

Gauthier takes over from Brittany Penner, who coached the team last season.

As well, the BFHA board has approved two assistant coaches for next year. Both Ashley Blaquiere and Larissa Winterholt have been taken on as assistant coaches with the Sharks for the upcoming season.

Blaquiere played three seasons for the Sharks and was selected each year to the SFMAAAHL All-star team. She also played college hockey at Red Deer College.

Winterholt played for the AA Sharks program prior to the AAA league, was a former assistant coach with the AAA Sharks and was an assistant coach at the SHA Top 80 SASKFIRST Team Sask summer camp. She is also a highly certified SHA coach.
