Two new group homes and a condominium project that sparked much debate and discussion at city hall this fall helped lead North Battleford to a big month in permit values in November.
Six building permits were issued for $3,899,000 in November, a big increase in value from the 16 issued for $716,000 in November 2010.
Leading the way was the permit for a new 21-unit condominium proposed by Glencoe Developments at 2322 Kildeer Dr., with a permit value of $1,958,000.
The project was notable as it was approved for funding earlier this year under a Residential Down Payment Grant Program, a program adopted by council amid much controversy and debate in 2011.
As well, two new institutional permits were issued to Battlefords Residential Services for new group homes, one at 2431 Kildeer Dr. valued at $819,000 and the other at 1731 102nd St. valued at $769,000. The building of the two new homes was announced earlier this year.
In addition, one permit was issued for industrial alterations in the amount of $288,000 and two residential alterations permits were issued for $65,000 to make up the grand total of $3,899,000 for the month.
For the year through November, North Battleford has already shattered last year's numbers for building permit values. While the number of permits, 127, issued in 2011 is down from the 151 issued for the same period in 2010, the permit value total of $74,483,350 is way up from the $39,785,300 for the same period in 2010.
New dwelling permits remain down for the year, however, at 18 compared to 28 the year before. New dwelling permit values are also down for the year at $4,395,000 compared to $6,940,000 the year before.
The November numbers were submitted by Building Inspector Jerry Wintonyk.
