The Living Sky School Division Board of Education has announced the appointment of David (Dave) Hutchinson to the position of director of education/CEO effective August 2016. Hutchinson succeeds Randy Fox who retires this year following a 36-year career in education highlighted by his student‐centered approach to all decision‐making.
Board Chair Ken Arsenault commented, “The Board would like to thank Randy for his unwavering commitment to our students and staff. We wish him all the best in his retirement. After an extensive director search and excellent competition, we are excited to welcome Dave Hutchinson and look forward to what the future holds for the students of Living Sky School Division.”
Hutchinson brings an impressive range of qualifications accompanied by a proven commitment to student success, states a release issued by the division.
Most recently, he was the superintendent/CEO with Nanaimo-Ladysmith Public Schools in Nanaimo, British Columbia. Mr. Hutchinson also spent time with the School District of Mystery Lake in northern Manitoba as the assistant superintendent.
He spent several years in Saskatchewan, nine of which were as a superintendent with Regina Public School Division’s Instruction and School Services Department.
Over the course of his career, he has worked in K‐12 education including classroom teaching, curriculum consulting and development, teacher education, and high school administration.
He is a graduate of both the University of Regina (Bachelor of Arts, English; Bachelor of Education, and Master of Education) and the First Nations University of Canada (Bachelor of Arts, Indian Studies).
Hutchinson stated, “I consider this appointment to be a significant honour, and I look forward to supporting the students, board of trustees, staff, and the school communities served by the division as we endeavour to further strengthen Living Sky’s longstanding commitment to innovative and inclusive instruction. I am also very pleased to be returning to the Saskatchewan provincial education community, one that shares the Living Sky School Division’s interest in ensuring that the improvement of student learning is priority number one.”
Dave is married to Carole, who is currently working as a student support teacher with Nanaimo‐ Ladysmith Public Schools. They have three children: Ayden, Tomson, and Matti. Ayden is apprenticing as an electrician in Saskatoon, Tomson lives in Nanaimo and is a recent graduate of the University of Vancouver Island’s horticulture program, and Matti is currently studying at Douglas College in Vancouver with a focus on communications.
