As of Tuesday last week, the City is welcoming its new manager of finance, Fazal Quadri. His position is integrated with the previous director of finance position and entails all incumbent duties.
"The position is very strong and with my financial background, I was looking for a senior position," said Quadri. "In my previous junior positions, I was supporting their departments. Now I'm looking forward to organizing and managing this department."
Prior to moving to Humboldt, Quadri had lived in Toronto for 10 years, which was his first stop after moving from his native land of Pakistan in 2001. In 2010, he spent four years in Regina scouring accounting and tax work. For two years, he was a financial reporting and policy advisor for the city and then a promotion led to another two years managing the office.
Unlike a lot of people, every move seems to take him and his family to a smaller community. Quadri moved here with his wife and two sons, both of whom are still in elementary school.
"Both of them are excited and were excited when I was looking for a job," said Quadri. "It's small compared to Toronto, but they're excited because it's a change for them."
It's only been a few days since Quadri officially took over the position so he's not sure yet what kind of challenges he faces. So far, settling down and getting adjusted is his main concern. He has also noticed a smaller Indian and Pakistani population here than he's used to, but it's not really an issue.
"Everyone is very comforting and helpful in the office environment," he said. "It matters if you find people around you and they're not co-operative, then probably you'll think about where you are right now. Otherwise, if people are good with you then you get settled; slowly, but you still get settled."
Quadri's qualifications as finance manager stem from more than 18 years of accounting experience, accounting certification from the United States, and he's a chartered global management accountant.
