The Northern Lights Palace pool now has a new booking policy that clarifies when the pool is available to rent, which groups get first priority and cancellations.

The new policy was passed at a City of Melfort council meeting Feb. 13.

“Mostly it was just for clarification, just because it hadn’t been looked at in some time and we need to clarify some of the things that had changed,” said Coun. April Phillips, the chair of the community services committee. “Also, with the online booking, it was important to let people know what rules were in place.”

First priority for rental goes toward the city, followed by special events, minor sports programs and adult programs.

The pool is available to rent from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day. It’s open for birthday parties Friday evenings, and Saturday and Sunday afternoons.

Coun. Trent Mitchell was concerned about a rule that would prevent parents from bringing in birthday cake without the permission of the concession owner. Phillips said she doesn’t believe those rules place undue hardship on those parents.

“I haven’t heard of any problems and this has been in effect for a while, it just wasn’t in the policy.”
