The Battlefords WPD ambulance unveiled a new piece of equipment that is likely to see regular use in the future.

The equipment, called the Zoll Autopulse, is already in use with the Rosthern Ambulance, and so will almost certainly be adopted for regular use.

The Autopulse is a "non-invasive cardiac support pump" for victims of sudden cardiac arrest. In layman's terms, it is a battery-operated device that performs perfect chest compressions. The device is especially important because human error and exhaustion will always lead to less-than-perfect chest compressions, especially as WPD ambulances often have to cover long distances.

One study showed that use of the device resulted in a 235 per cent improvement in survival to the hospital.

The AutoPulse fits on a backpack and is battery-operated, allowing it to be easily fit onto ambulances. Though it has only been approved for trial runs with the Battlefords WPD, it is very likely to be adopted as a piece of equipment, since it has become popular in its time with the Rosthern Ambulance.
