This year the Town of Hafford and Rural Municipality of Redberry will be celebrating their centennial birthdays.

This year the Town of Hafford and Rural Municipality of Redberry will be celebrating their centennial birthdays. With celebrations scheduled for June 28 through July 1, the committee decided it was an appropriate time to launch a new and improved website. The website www.haffordredberrycentennial.ca contains all the information regarding the celebrations from events, times and places to online registration options. There is also a Facebook page.

The committee is in the process of designing a commemorative calendar in honour of the event and is seeking photographs of the train station, trains, 1950 main street fire or any other pictures of interest.

Weekend festivities begin the evening of June 28 with registration and a wine and cheese social. Saturday begins with a parade, followed by a reunion of all rural schools and Hafford Central School. There is also a special invitation call out for past and present staff members of Hafford Union Hospital and Hafford & District Nursing Home. There will be an unveiling of the legacy project later in the afternoon followed by a banquet and evening of entertainment at the communiplex.

Sunday consists of local church services, brunch and entertainment and cultural activities on Main Street. The formal part of the evening concludes with fireworks.

Canada Day celebrations will be underway Monday, July 1, following the traditional annual flag raising ceremony. The remainder of the day consists of cake and activities including ball games, children's events and entertainment.

The weekend will provide an opportunity to rekindle old friendships or make new ones, view displays, partake in school and church tours, visit cemetery sites and the Crooked Bush and play some golf.
