MELFORT — As the skateboard park at Melfort’s Spruce Haven Park nears completion, construction on the next set of recreational facilities is about to begin.

The plan for the rest of the year is to build a washroom/changeroom and to install an irrigation system for soccer pitches.

“That’s probably the bulk of what’s going to get done with Spruce Haven, as it is a multi-year plan,” said Rick Lang, Melfort’s mayor.

The skateboard park is expected to be done by the end of June, with a grand opening expected sometime in July.

Originally, the skateboard park was supposed to be done last year, with the washroom and soccer pitches starting this year.

“Instead what is happening is as the crews finish up the skateboard park, the other segments are still moving forward, so it’s not delaying anything as far as the long-term plan,” Lang said.

Eventually, according to the plans, Spruce Haven Park will be the home for a second ice surface within the city.
