THE BATTLEFORDS — The annual grant from the Nico Hawryliw Fund was recently presented to Edam Minor Hockey.

The Nico Hawryliw Fund was established in 2011 and previous grants from the fund have supported district needs including health, home care, North Battleford Golf and Country Club Junior Golf program, BGC Battlefords and Battlefords Trade and Education Centre. The fund has provided more than $13,500 in grants over the years.

This year’s grant of $1,464.00 will support the minor hockey program in Edam.

Nico’s father, Lionel Hawryliw, made the presentation to the Edam U7 Three Stars hockey team.

“Sports, and hockey in particular, were a large part of Nico’s life,” he said. “With Nico’s niece and nephew being members of Edam Minor Hockey, Nico’s mother, Allison, and I thought that it was appropriate to direct the funds this year to Edam Minor Hockey.”

Battlefords and District Community Foundation currently manages more than 28 funds that will contribute to a range of interests from the arts and health care to post-secondary scholarships and recreation. BDCF will distribute more than $60,000 in annual community grants and scholarships this year. To date, their donors have provided more than $1,300,000 to the community.
