The Nipawin Hawks raced out to an early lead and never looked back as they rolled past the Flin Flon Bombers 5-1 in Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League action from Nipawin.
Three nights after giving up two goals in the first four minutes, the Hawks flipped the script on the Bombers during their Dec. 5 contest scoring twice in the first four minutes as Daven Smith and Jake Tremblay scored less than a minute apart.
The Hawks hung on to the lead until midway through the second period when Michael Grant scored his first of two goals in the period to give the Hawks a 3-0 lead.
With time winding down in the period Grant scored his second of the night, as the Hawks lead 4-0 through two periods.
Christian Bosa, playing in his first game since being acquired from Kindersley last week, scored his first career SJHL goal just 2:45 into the third period to give the Hawks a commanding 5-0 lead.
The Bombers would finally get on the board at 12:25 as Calvon Boots beat Jake Anthony to break his shutout bid.
That was as close as the Bombers would come as Anthony turned aside 23 of the 24 shots he faced to pick up his eighth win of the season as the Hawks outshot the Bombers 34-24.
It was a chippy affair between the two teams as they combined for 68 penalty minutes, with neither team having much success on the power play as Nipawin finished the evening 0-for-6 with the man advantage, while the Bombers were 0-for-7.
The Hawks will look to push their season high point streak to ten games when they return to action on Dec. 8 for the front half of a home-and-home series with the Melville Millionaires in Nipawin.
