NIPAWIN — The Town of Nipawin has put out a call for somebody to design and produce three tourism information signs, one for each highway entrance into town.

Barry Elliott, the town’s administrator, said the old signs were removed late last year.

“Those signs that were up were in very, very bad shape,”  he said. “They were literally curled. It was the wrong material that was used when they were installed, clearly, so we’re going to be more careful about that.”

Proposals are due to the town July 12 and must include a draft design, the cost, a timeline and an indication of how durable the materials used will be. The town intends to install the signs itself on the same metal frames the old ones were posted.

The old signs had three elements: a town map, a Twin Lakes regional map and a list of community attractions. Elliott said what will be in the community attractions remains to be seen.

“There will be more discussion with whoever the successful proponent is and Jayne [Remenda, the town’s economic development officer] will be the one directing the work on that and the content of the signs.”

The town wishes the signs to be up as soon as possible.
