A public hearing took place Monday at North Battleford city council to amend the zoning bylaw to add accessory dwelling units as a discretionary use at the YQW- Airport District.

The public hearing is in connection to the application before City Hall to add a dwelling unit to an existing hangar at the airport.

There were a couple of pieces of correspondence submitted from airport manager Fran de Kock and also from Director of Utility Services Stewart Schafer, with Schafer’s correspondence suggesting the accessory unit be allowed as long as a number of conditions are followed.

Beyond those two pieces of correspondence there was no opposition expressed to the proposed bylaw amendments. The next step is for the bylaw to come back for second and third reading at City Hall and that is expected at the next council meeting in July.
