North West College held partnership appreciation events in Meadow Lake June 19 and North Battleford June 20.
The events welcomed partners of the college to celebrate another successful year. More than 300 local businesses and industry leaders work with North West College in a variety of ways. They take on work placement students and provide contract programming, customized professional development, career fairs and sponsorships.
The evening programs highlighted some of this year’s brightest and best students with the naming of North West College’s completion scholarship recipients. Approximately $53,600 was awarded to 36 students. Recipients demonstrated outstanding academic achievement, leadership and commitment to pursuing advancement in post-secondary education at North West College.
These scholarships are made possible by gifts from individual and corporate donors, as well as a grant from the Saskatchewan Innovation and Opportunity Scholarships program, administered through the Ministry of Advanced Education. Through this program, the Saskatchewan Government matches every dollar the college receives for scholarships from local industry partners and private donors, thus doubling the resources to support students in the region.
North West College’s scholarship program is designed to remove financial barriers to student success. Through this program North West College is helping support the next generation of creative thinkers and equipping them with resources to help advance their education. During the 2017-18 academic year, North West College gave out more than $100,000 to students.
“Our scholarship program is an important part of fulfilling our commitment to workforce growth and development within northwest Saskatchewan,” said Melanie Roberts, interim president and CEO of North West College.
“All of our recipients demonstrate great potential in leading the next generation. We wish them the very best as they move on to the next stage of their lives.”
Among the North West College students earning scholarships was Jordan Carbert who accepts the Innovation Credit Union Community Innovator Scholarship from Dana Rissling.
