Finalists have been announced in the Saskatchewan Municipal Awards and the Northwest communities of Unity and Paradise Hill are among the nominees.
Unity is up for two awards. One is the Community Life Enrichment Award presented and sponsored by the Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association, and the other is the Environmental Stewardship award for their waste water diversion and reuse project.
In that latter category Unity was the only nominee, so the community seems certain to come home with at least one award at the Saskatchewan Municipal Awards luncheon May 11.
Also receiving a nomination in the Municipal Innovation and Service Excellence category was the Village of Paradise Hill and the RM of Frenchman Butte for Paradise Hill Care Home, Inc.
In all, 11 communities were nominated in six categories that also included Economic Development Leadership, Regional Leadership and Partnerships, and Heritage Conservation Leadership. Other communities nominated include Moose Jaw. Yorkton, Carrot River, Assiniboia, Maple Creek, Fort Qu'Appelle, White City and several other smaller communities and rural municipalities.
The nominees were selected by an independent five-person selection committee who reviewed the finalists' achievements and picked the recipients in each of the categories.
The sixth annual Saskatchewan Municipal Awards luncheon will be held at the Ramada Hotel and Convention Centre, 1818 Victoria St., Regina at 1 p.m.
