Northwest residents are among those being honoured for their volunteer service by the Saskatchewan Housing Corporation.

They were among guests of honour at a luncheon Monday in Regina. The individuals were being recognized for their years of volunteer service with their respective local housing authority.

Among those honoured for 25 years of service were Lorraine Diesen of Shell Lake Housing Authority and Helen Starnes of Turtleford Housing Authority.

Recognized for 30 years of service were Jean Hryniuk of Borden Housing Authority, Victor Delhommeau of Luseland Housing Authority and Stewart Johnson of Parkside Housing Authority.

Finally, James Dushire of Wilkie Housing Authority was among those honoured for 35 years service.

In a statement Social Services Minister June Draude paid tribute to the work of the volunteers.

"These volunteers give the gift of their time and energy to people across this great province each and every day," said Draude.

"Local housing authorities not only look after our important investment in public housing, but more importantly, care about the community members who reside in these properties. Our government truly values their commitment to improving the lives of Saskatchewan people in need."
