May 12 is the date set for the second annual On Air for Healthcare Radio-thon happening in the main lobby of Battlefords Union Hospital.
Battlefords Union Hospital Foundation has partnered with Jim Pattison Broadcast Group in the Battlefords to raise funds for enhanced health care in The Battlefords and area. The Radio-thon will start at 6 am on May 12 and run on radio stations CJNB, Q98 and 93.3 The Rock.
Funds raised go to the campaign “Every Little Bit Counts: every little aching ear, tender nose and sore throat,” with money raised going to the purchase of surgical equipment for use by BUH’s recently recruited ears, nose and throat surgeon.
Last year’s radio-thon raised most of the $600,000 BUH Foundation had committed for a new CT scanner in the Medical Imaging Department.
“We are well into the process of procuring the new CT scanner and getting it installed,” noted Cheryl Mitchell, director of Medical Imaging Services, Prairie North Health Region.
“Our focus is always on the patient first and we want to ensure that the type of CT scanner purchased is one that fits the needs of our community. I am grateful to the foundation and the radio stations as well as everyone who donated to this project.”
In 2016, the Radiothon included on-air testimonials and matching donations from employers. There were also challenges issued, with Dr. Matt Pruden challenging all dentists to match his donation, while Chris Odishaw of Battlefords Furniture had to pay up after he challenged the audience that if they donated up to $10,000 in an hour he would make a matching donation. Also that year, Bridges Chev Buick GMC pledged they would donate $100 for every car they sold that day.
Organizers are looking for similar participation this year.
“Having our second On Air for Healthcare Radiothon is an exciting venture and we are pleased to partner, and have the support of the local radio stations in ensuring continued exceptional patient care at BUH,” said Michael Zaychkowsky, BUH Foundation’s board of directors chair.
“Hours and hours of airtime are donated and is very influential in the successful outcome of the On Air for Healthcare Radiothon. Thank you to all who donated and please join us again on May 12.”
