Humboldt will have its collective toes a-tapping with the OnStage Dance Competition on April 19-22 at Jubilee Hall.
Over 800 dancers from 20 different Saskatchewan dance companies will be welcomed into town to compete in many different dance disciplines from solos to large groups.
Dancers will have four days to show off their stuff with the competition wrapping up with the golden ticket finals on April 22 at 3 p.m.
Prizes include $500 for the golden ticket winners 12 and under and $1,000 for the dance group winners, 13 and older.
Dance companies from across the country have been very generous, says Reineke, contributing scholarships for top dancers in different disciplines and age categories.
Dancers will have the chance to win full or half scholarships to camps or intensives for different companies, including ones in Vancouver and Toronto.
Over 1,500 people will be coming into town with instructors, choreographers, and families also coming to watch the performances, says incoming OnStage Chair, Cory Reineke.
The benefits to Humboldt will be two-fold with Humboldt having the chance to celebrate dance and the hardwork of the dancers and instructors while also having more than 1,500 people also visiting Humboldt area businesses while they are in the city.
“These dancers and families are going to be going to restaurants, maybe going to movies during their off time. So general businesses and restaurants can definitely anticipate seeing some extra traffic coming through their doors.”
Visitors will also have shopping opportunities at OnStage’s tradeshow and the OnStage photo booth at the Uniplex while they take in performances.
Reineke hopes everyone takes the opportunity to have fun throughout a weekend full of dance.
