The Blaine Lake & District Chamber of Commerce and Blaine Lake Economic Development Co-operative (BLEDCO-small business loan association) is co-hosting an information session for students in Grades 10 to 12 at Blaine Lake Composite school May 29. There will also be a session for the general public in the evening at 7 p.m. at the BL Senior Centre on Main Street.

The evening session will also provide a brief presentation from the Chamber Group Insurance program introducing new insurance options for the agricultural industry. If you own a year-round agricultural business, whether it is farming, raising fish or livestock, you work hard to make your business grow and now you can reap the rewards of your work with affordable and flexible employee benefits from Canada's number one group benefit plan for small business. There is finally a plan that can provide your agribusiness with access to group insurance benefits even if it is a one-person operation.

The purpose of the credit session is to inform individuals of the value of having a good credit rating as well as educate them on how quickly good credit can be ruined.

"As students head out in to the 'world after high school', it is comforting to know that we can provide the tools and education to them to ensure they proceed in life with good credit rating," explained Vivian Nemish, Blaine Lake & District Chamber of Commerce chair and BLEDCO director. "We are inviting Grade 10 to 12 students to this May 29 afternoon event to provide them with the foundation of information in which to make educated knowledgeable decisions in the future."

Birdie Thompson and Brenda Semeniuk are program co-ordinators with the Small Business Loans Association (SBLA) at Enterprise Saskatchewan in Regina. The SBLA program makes funds available to entrepreneurs through local, community-run associations for the development of a new business or the expansion of an existing business.

They will be sharing their insights about credit: why it is important, what a good credit rating is, what factors contribute to a credit rating, how someone can check their credit rating, what you can do to improve your rating and what you can do to protect yourself from identity thief. Everyone is welcome to attend the evening session.
