Those seeking orthopedic surgery will have more options closer to home, according to a Prairie North Health Region press release.

Dr. Earl Kowalczyk, an orthopedic surgeon, began seeing patients in Lloydminster Hospital Sept. 4. PNHR's CEO, David Fan, said that the addition was "just the beginning of Prairie North's orthopedic program in Lloydminster." Fan noted that other orthopedic surgeons are likely to be attracted to the health region in the foreseeable future.

The PNHR plans to spend approximately $1.4 million this fiscal year on increased staffing, equipment and instruments to run the orthopedic program.

The next public PNHR board meeting will take place in Meadow Lake at the Northwest Health Facility Sept. 26. For more information, or for minutes from previous Board meetings, visit www.pnhr.ca.
