Park user fees going up

There will be a five per cent increase for field users across the city.

There will be a five per cent increase for field users across the city.
City Council has approved recommendation from the Community and Leisure Services to accept the updated Park Policies and Rates for 2013, which will see an overall increase of five per cent in user fees.
"It's a way to help cover inflation and increased costs such as wages and equipment," said councillor Rob Muench.
The park fee increase has been implemented by the City of Humboldt on an annual basis for the past number of years.
In meeting with different user groups, Muench said Council determined the same incremental increase per annum was more beneficial than staggering increases throughout odd years.
"Groups would rather keep it as a known number per year so they can adjust their (players') rates accordingly," he said.
The park increases will primarily affect those with soccer fields and ball diamonds, and will be applied per player, per team.
The City of Humboldt previously charged teams on a per-game basis but the complication of cancelled, rescheduled and makeup games made the formula vulnerable to inaccuracies.
