Much of the talk at Monday's Parks and Recreation meeting at City Hall was about the opening of the Battlefords Co-op Aquatic Centre Saturday.

The committee noted there was a tremendous response and outpouring to the new Aquatic Centre. Chair Don Buglas noted the rave reviews from users, though he noticed the main complaint he heard from some people was "it should've been bigger."

Recreation services manager Robin Langille noted the pool was busy Saturday with about 400 to 500 people using it in the afternoon.

The grand opening celebrations were also well attended. The Co-op supplied food for the day and Langille noted a thousand hot dogs were given away in the afternoon.

Facilities manager Bill Samborski noted the positive feedback from users about the reasonable prices at the facility.

The positive comments about the successful opening of the aquatic centre literally took the words out of the mouth of Parks and Recreation Director Keith Anderson, who delivered his usual update on the progress of CUPlex construction to the committee.

He noted the Dekker Centre sign was now up on that building and the grand opening celebrations commence Thursday. He confirmed the curling centre should be open to the public by the end of the month. An antique car show is to be held at that facility before the ice goes in.

The field house should be the final component completed and the date for that continues to be late November.
