The province has announced that Murray Pelletier has been appointed to be a judge at the Provincial Court in North Battleford.

He has been appointed to take over from Judge Bruce Bauer, who is transferring to Provincial Court in Saskatoon.

Pelletier worked most recently with the federal public prosecution service but has extensive experience with Legal Aid Saskatchewan, working in the northern area office and later as legal director in the Saskatoon Rural Area Office.

Pelletier is no stranger to the Battlefords. He worked with Sunchild Law Office for a time before returning to Legal Aid, and has appeared in court in North Battleford representing clients on several occasions.

Pelletier is a member of Cowessess First Nation, Treaty 4 Territory of Saskatchewan. He received his law degree from the University of Saskatchewan in 2007.

Minister of Justice and Attorney-General Don Morgan praised Pelletier’s skills in announcing the appointment.

“Judge Pelletier is a remarkable appointment to the bench,” said Morgan in a news release. “He has made valuable contributions to the legal community in Saskatchewan for the past 10 years. His knowledge, experience and skill will certainly enhance the judicial system in our province.
