North Battleford city council has authorized the permanent closure of a portion of two streets in North Battleford's north end.

The first is a portion of 25th Avenue in Fairview Heights adjacent to Henderson Drive. According to the public notice issued by the City, the closure is necessary "to facilitate continued development along Henderson Drive."

The second closure is a portion of a lane located in the Fairview Heights neighbourhood between Henderson Drive and Amos Drive. According to the public notice, this closure is necessary to allow the land to be incorporated with a new lot.

A public hearing on the avenue and lane closures was held at city council Monday.

While there were no objections to the closures, one delegation wanted assurance there would still be access to their property after the closures take place. City planner Tim LaFreniere was able to give that assurance, explaining there would be access to 25th Avenue through Amos Drive according to the future plans for the area.

Otherwise, there was no objection to the proposed closures. The bylaw authorizing the street closures was passed in three readings.
