North Battleford has Scott Campbell to thank for much of the increase in building permit values in May.

A total of 13 building permits were issued in May, down from the 19 issued the year before, but permit values were way up to $3,078,100, compared to $671,100 the previous May.

The permit numbers were released by the City this week. The May numbers were submitted by Building Inspector Jerry Wintonyk.

Two commercial alteration permits issued to Scott Campbell Dodge made up a major chunk of the permit value increase. The permits, issued for a value of $1,953,500, are in connection to the renovation and expansion currently underway at the Scott Campbell Dodge location at 3042 - 99th St., in the city's north-end auto dealership district.

Another reason for the increase in values in May was an eight unit apartment building permit issued to Harry Zamonsky Insurance for $900,000. That project is to be built on 104th Street.

In addition to those items, three garage/carport permits were issued for $62,000 and seven residential alterations were issued for $162,600 to make up the total for the month.

Overall 49 building permits were issued for $15,210,400 through May 2012, compared to 49 issued for $35,372,600 through May 2011.

While overall permit values are down so far this year, it should be noted last year's total was bolstered by the $31 million in new institutional permits issued for two of the Credit Union CUPlex components.
