Humboldt photographer, Alison Berk, has been photographing Humboldt and area babies, graduates, and families for the last 18 years as Imagin Photography.
Berk was recently recognized for her work with “Cocoon,” winning the Best in Class for the newborn category from the Professional Photographers of Canada at the 2018 award competition. “Cocoon,” and “Silent Beauty” were chosen as part of the Professional Photographers of Canada’s 2018 Loan Collection.
Two of the biggest milestones of someone’s life is being born and graduating high school, says Berk.
She is happy to be the one to capture graduation moments, since “you probably aren’t going to graduate from high school twice,” she says.
With “Silent Beauty” everything was perfect from the dress to the lighting.
Berk photographs babies under 12 days old. Because they change so much, so fast, it is important to get them in early, she says.
“It’s such a sweet shot of a little baby for those parents to remember forever how tiny she was.”
Not one baby is the same, especially when Berk is working on creating the perfect baby pose for her photos.
Depending on how deeply they sleep, some poses can take 25 minutes to organize in order to get hands, heads, and bodies in a certain position and doing it safely.
“Safety is a huge factor for me so I have to make sure it isn’t too hot in the studio but it’s warm enough and you’re not posing them in a compromising position.”
