McKitrick School Principal Amanda Risling has shared the school’s Remembrance Day Ceremony in North Battleford with the News-Optimist. She says, “Due to Covid we had to do things different. I’m so proud of one of our teachers who suggested a virtual assembly followed by a walk in our school yard that allowed our students to walk, honour and remember the veterans who fought for our freedom.” We began the day with a school-wide zoom assembly. She adds, “I think it’s so wonderful how educators are looking for ways to make traditional ceremonies carry on despite Covid.”Jeffrey Lewis played the drum as students smudged and paid respects to Indigenous and all Canadian veterans.
