NIPAWIN — Delegates of the Pineland Co-op voted unanimously in favour of recommending an amalgamation with Lake Country Co-op in Prince Albert.
Before the two co-ops can amalgamate, Lake Country Co-op will need to also vote in favour.
The Lake Country Co-op vote is expected to take place in March.
Morley Doerksen, Pineland’s president said benefits of the amalgamation include saving costs by bulk purchasing for the two co-ops, an expected rise in membership equity, and sharing both expertise and equipment between the two businesses.
“We’re pretty excited about it,” Doerksen said. “It was voted unanimously which was great, it was nice to see.”
Before the vote, the Pineland delegates canvased throughout the community to collect public opinion.
The Pineland vote occurred on Jan. 27.
