North Battleford has confirmed that its annual Spring Clean-up Day will go ahead Thursday.
It will begin at 9 a.m. and go until 4 p.m. that day. It is being hosted by the City of North Battleford along with the Downtown Business Improvement District.
The community is being encouraged to participate. In a City news release, groups and businesses are urged to clean up their properties and schools are being encouraged to get involved that day. Local residents can also participate by cleaning up their yards and neighbourhoods.
Schools and groups can register ahead of time with Tammy MacCormack, environmental manager at the City, and receive garbage bags and labels for pickup day. The bags can then be disposed of at the waste management facility free of charge.
At noon, volunteers will enjoy a barbecue at the fire hall, sponsored by No Frills. City staff will be involved in the effort, picking up litter in the ditches along Highways 4 and 16.
The cleanup day is an annual event that usually coincides with Earth Day. This year’s cleanup was delayed by a couple of weeks because of messy conditions due to the late arrival of spring. Last year, nearly 2,000 kilograms of garbage was collected.
