Financial statements for the first four months of the 2011-12 fiscal year show Prairie North Health Region with budget surplus of $243 million, PNRH Authority board members were advised at an Aug. 31 meeting in Meadow Lake.

Vice-president of Finance Jerry Keller explained the surplus to the end of July 2011 is primarily in salaries for new programs and positions not yet implemented or fully functional. Keller added the end of August and September financial statements will be more indicative of where the Region is headed for the rest of the operating year.

Board members approved the re-appointment of six individuals to the Lakeland Community Health Advisory Network (CHAN). Re-appointed to CHAN, which provides input and advice to the PNRHA board on broad issues related to the health of the Edam, St. Walburg, Turtleford and surrounding area communities, are: Ferne Nielsen of Turtleford; Muriel Conacher of Mervin; Sharon Drewlo, Turtleford; Barbara Johnson, Edam; Marion Nordell of Turtleford; and Frank Simonot of St. Walburg.

The Lakeland CHAN was formed in March 2008 at the request of local residents.
