Being placed in a long-term care centre can, understandably, add stress and strain to family and marital relationships. The recreation department staff at Battlefords District Care Centre, along with the rest of the facility's staff and management, developed programming that involves the family. Examples include barbecues, drives to the lake, birthday and holiday parties and community outings. Each event is designed with family involvement in mind.

Cathy Watson, RPN, and Colleen Perrin, recreation therapist, gave the board a presentation that they showed to the 2011 Innovators Conference hosted by the Saskatchewan Union of Nurses in September.

Three reports were also discussed at the meeting: the 2011-12 Strategic and Operational Directions Second Quarter Report from the Ministry of Health, the Quality and Safety Report from the Prairie North Health Region and the Saskatchewan Health System Plan for 2012-13 from the Ministry of Health. The reports generally showed Prairie North is well on track to meet annual quality and performance goals.

Financial statements to the end of Nov 2011 also showed an operating surplus of nearly $4.5 million

The next meeting of the Prairie North Health Region Board of Directors is Jan. 25 at Battlefords Union Hospital.
