After a successful tour last year, the Prairie North Health Region's Immunization Van will be returning to the community again this summer.
The van, decorated with a Prairie North logo and other signage, will allow parents to bring their children, aged six and under, to receive vaccinations against diseases including measles, mumps, chicken pox, whooping cough, meningitis, tetanus and others.
"This year's program builds on the success of last year," says PNHR Manager of Public Health Services Diane Piper. "We have expanded it into Lloydminster and are excited about reaching even more families this summer."
Nurses will start seeing families around 10 a.m. and will move around the community depending on how busy each location is, finishing around 4 p.m. every day. Parents can call or text 441-1364 to find out where a van is located or for more information.
"Each vaccination received helps protect that individual child, but it also improves protection for our entire community," explains Piper. "If we can make immunization more convenient for families by going out to where they are this summer, it will be easier for everyone to protect their families and community from preventable disease."
The van will be in North Batteford July 5, 10, 16, 17, 25 and 30 and Aug. 1, 8, 9, 20, 23, 28 and 30. The van will also be parked near the food booths at Northwest Territorial Days from Aug. 14 to 17.
The van will also be visiting Lloydminster from July 11 to 13 at the Colonial Days Fair, and on July 18 and 24, and Aug. 2, 10 and 22.
