While a new facility is on the way to replace Saskatchewan Hospital North Battleford, it appears the name will likely be retained.
During a meeting of the board of the Prairie North Regional Health Authority Sept. 4, the board endorsed a motion expressing their support for retaining the name Saskatchewan Hospital North Battleford (SHNB) for the new mental health treatment centre.
The board members felt the name should be retained in recognition of SHNB’s historical place as a home and treatment centre for thousands of clients over the past 100 years.
The new 188-bed Saskatchewan Hospital is being built in conjunction with a new 96-room correctional facility for male and female adult offenders.
Work on site, adjacent to the current hospital, has begun and completion is expected by the spring of 2018.
