Police say they are keeping a close watch on school zones where a new speed limit of 30 km/h is in effect.

School zone speed limits were reduced under the new traffic bylaw, with the lowered limits coming into effect this month.

The new signs are now up and S. Sgt. Phil Wilson said his department has had a significant presence in the school zones.

Wilson told North Battleford council Monday the police have written a number of speeding tickets in the school zones.

"One day I was told they had written eight tickets in the school zones, which is considerable considering the signage is out there," he said. He noted media coverage has also been extensive.

He also notes the police cars are clearly visible at the school zones with lights on the roof.

He called eight speeding tickets "quite a few" for one day.
