Humboldt Emergency Services will be out looking for safe behavior as the Safe Communities Humboldt and Area Positive Ticketing campaign kicks off May 15.
Shari Hinz, executive director of Safe Communities Humboldt and Area says RCMP, fire, and ambulance services will giving out positive tickets to children and adults while they are on patrols across the city until Sept. 15.
“It’s always a great initiative in terms of getting that safety messaging out to the public, particularly the youth, to reward those safe choices.”
Whether it be wearing a helmet when biking, crossing at crosswalks, pedestrian awareness, and helping others with safe crossing, the campaign is a way to promote this safe behaviour in Humboldt.
Seeing safe behaviour as a family is also encouraged, says Hinz, with adults having the opportunity to model that safe behaviour, like wearing a helmet, for their kids.
People promoting safety in other people is also a big part of positive ticketing with rewards going out to people who promote this safety idea, including kids promoting the idea among their friends.
This is also a great way for Humboldt residents to get to know their RCMP, fire, and ambulance workers within Humboldt.
The majority of the time, people only get to meet emergency crews during an emergency. The positive ticketing campaign is an opportunity to promote that positive interaction with people and emergency servicespersonnel, says Hinz.
Rewards for positive behaviour will include special coupons and items made available through the positive ticketing sponsors SaskTel, the Humboldt & District Chamber of Commerce, the City of Humboldt, Safe
Communities Humboldt and Area, and local businesses including Dairy Queen, Tim Hortons and Kemway Lanes.
