Power, telephone services west of Melfort affected by winter storm

Communities affected by service outages include James Smith Cree Nation, Kinistino, Beatty, Meskanaw and St. Brieux.

The winter storm on the evening on Nov. 16 caused service outages in communities west of Melfort.

MELFORT — Due to last night's winter storm, SaskPower and SaskTel are reporting service outages.

As of 2:21 p.m. on Nov. 17 SaskPower reports power outages in James Smith Cree Nation,  Kinistino, Meskanaw, St Brieux, and surrounding rural areas.

"The ETR [estimated time of restoration] for remaining customers is approx 7 p.m. ," the power company said.

St. Brieux School and Kinistino Public School has been closed for the day by their school divisions due to the power outage

As of 8 a.m. wireless phone service in James Smith First Nation and Kinistino have been affected.

"SaskTel crews will work to restore services in all impacted communities as soon as highway conditions improve, and it is safe to travel," the telecommunications crown said.
