Blaine Lake will be one of the stops on the Prairie Women on Snowmobiles 2014 trek across Saskatchewan.

The core team of 10 riders, two alternate core riders and three members of the pit crew will begin their 14th 1,800-kilometre ride across the province Friday, and will wrap up their odyssey Feb. 7.

The riders will roll out of Prince Albert Friday morning and make stops in Shellbrook and Blaine Lake. The first day will end in Martensville, and from there the PWOS will travel southwest into the Kindersley area and beyond, visiting a total of 31 communities. The trek wraps up in Nipawin after eight days on the trail.

Among this year's team of riders is Sancia Diebel, who immigrated to Canada from England eight years ago and now enjoys her Canadian life on a farm near the Battlefords.

Diebel says she is looking forward to meeting the other women, to make a difference working together to support a great cause, raising funds for research into breast cancer, meeting people in their communities, listening to their stories and making new friends.

To contribute to Sancia's efforts, and those of the other riders, visit the PWOS website and sign up. Supporters can also help by contributing to a bottle drive with an ambitious goal of 90,000 cans.

"It's a lot of work to organize the annual trek, but it's tremendously rewarding to help 'fund' a cure," says Carol Lueken, president of POWS.

"We hope people will support our ride by making a donation and by joining our team for a leg of the journey," Lueken says.

Online donations for the Ride for the Cure may be made at: www.prairiewomen.ca.
