Prairie Spirit School Division No. 206, which includes schools in Borden, Blaine Lake and Leask, is among eight school divisions that will receive mid-year funding increases from the Ministry of Education.

The funding recognizes significant enrolment increases in schools within the eight divisions. Prairie Spirit also governs schools in Martensville and Warman, that along with Saskatoon represent more than 50 per cent of the total provincial enrolment growth of almost 2,300 students.

Prairie Spirit's allotment of funding totals almost $600,000. The provincial total is $6.6 million.

A plan to increase the number of portable classrooms on-site and ready for students at the beginning of the 2013-14 school year has also been announced.

The other divisions are Lloydminster RCSSD No. 89, Prairie Valley SD No. 208, Regina RCSSD No. 81, Saskatoon SD No. 13, South East Cornerstone SD 209, St. Paul's RCSSD No. 20 and Sun West SD No. 207.

School division operating funding for 2012-13 is based on divisions' prior-year enrolments.

The Government of Saskatchewan also committed an additional $800,000 to implement a process that will result in 40 to 50 new portable classrooms added for the start of the 2013-14 school year.

These portable classrooms will be factory fabricated and constructed using a standardized design to accelerate the construction and delivery to schools most in need. Over the coming months, school divisions will be asked to provide input into the designs of the new portable classrooms.
