Two individuals charged in connection to recent incidents in the Battlefords have been sentenced to periods of probation.

Laurence Falcon received a suspended sentence and 12 months probation for possession of firearms while prohibited from doing so.

The guilty plea stems from an incident in Battleford April 28 when Falcon was seen walking up Second Avenue with a firearm.

Falcon's drug use was cited as an issue. Judge David Kaiser told Falcon his use of drugs over a long period has "got to stop. You don't want to be behaving like this again. It's pretty scary."

Terms of his probation prohibit him from using alcohol and drugs as well as a lifetime weapons ban. Falcon must still face drug charges for possession of cannabis over 30 grams, and that is due to come back to provincial court June 16.

Also in court Thursday was Tyler Cardinal, who entered guilty pleas to charges of theft of a bottle of whisky from an offsale, carrying a concealed eight-inch kitchen knife and breach of recognizance in connection stemming from May 28 incidents in North Battleford. He also entered guilty pleas to two charges from Meadow Lake in 2012, in which he was alleged to have smashed a window of a vehicle and then failed to attend court.

He received nine days time served on the fail to attend charge and a suspended sentence and probation of 12 months on the other charges. Cardinal is also ordered to pay back $700 in restitution for the car damage and was also ordered to report to police in Alberta with respect to outstanding warrants he faces in that province.
