HUMBOLDT — Humboldt will soon be home to an agriculture ministry regional extension services office.

The office is being moved from Watrous. The five staff members at that office will be working at the Humboldt location. There will be no job reductions.

“It's an opportunity for the ministry to be co-located with Saskatchewan Crop Insurance. Currently Watrous does not have a crop insurance office and Humboldt does,” said Naomi Paley with the agriculture ministry.

“The Watrous office has experienced minimal foot traffic in comparison to our other offices across the province, particularly those that are co-located with crop insurance offices.”

The ministry said the Watrous office had seen 70 walk-ins within a year.

By March, the office will move to a temporary location a couple of doors down from Saskatchewan Crop Insurance.

The province is looking for a permanent location within Humboldt that will be able to house both the extension services and crop insurance. An ad published in the Humboldt Journal from the Ministry of Central Services was asking for tenders for 340.3 square metres of office space.

There are 10 regional extension services offices located in the province.
