RCMP have issued a warning to the public about the release of a man with a history of violent sex offences from Bowden Institution in Alberta Thursday.

Nicky Calliou finished serving a 36-month sentence of sexual assault Sept. 27 and intends to reside in the Lloydminster area.

Calliou, 44, is a Métis man, 5' 9" tall weighing 154 pounds. He has brown eyes and brown hair.

RCMP say Calliou has been convicted of numerous violent, sexual offences including committing an indecent act, two counts of sexual assault, sexual assault with a weapon and robbery.

"The RCMP is issuing this information and warning after careful deliberation and consideration of all related issues, including privacy concerns, in the belief that it is clearly in the public interest to inform the members of the community of the release of Nicky Caliou," states Cpl. Melinda Tomlinson of Lloydminster Municipal RCMP in a press release.

"The RCMP believe that there is a risk of significant harm to the health and safety of the public, and in particular, adult females," Tomlinson adds.

The intent of the process is to enable members of the public to take suitable precautionary measures, but not to embark on any form of vigilante action. Anyone believing a crime has been or is about to be committed is encouraged to call police.
