Access Communications Co-operative will head to the streets on Halloween night to conduct their annual children's safety program - the Pumpkin Patrol. 2011 marks the 14th year for the program.

From 6 to 9 p.m. Monday, Access Communications service vans will be patrolling the streets as a safe contact in case any children need help while trick-or-treating.

"Pumpkin Patrol is just one of the ways Access Communications gets involved in the communities we serve," Access CEO Jim Deane said. "Our staff members have a great time out there while they are providing a valuable public service and keeping children safe."

This year, Access will have patrollers out in eight Saskatchewan communities including Regina, Melfort, Humboldt, Estevan, Weyburn, Yorkton, North Battleford and La Ronge.

With the distinctive signs and flashing orange pumpkin on the roof, the vehicles are easily spotted and are recognized as a welcome sight in neighbourhoods across the province.

Pumpkin Patrol drivers are volunteers from Access and within our communities. Drivers make contact with the local police or RCMP dispatch in order to quickly report any incidents and ask for support if needed.

Children are encouraged to wave at the vehicles should they need help in any way on Halloween evening.
