The Canadian Cancer Society Jail-n-Bail rolled into town for another year of arrests on Jan. 24.
Convicts were brought before Judge Sarah Miller and were busy raising their “bail” money which will mostly stay in Saskatchewan to help families affected by cancer.
Kalina Barlow with the Cancer Society says that the money is going where it is needed the most, which includes their volunteer driver program, advocacy and prevention, financial assistance and research.
Members of the community were granted official pardons after their time.
During the morning Jail-n-Bail session four convicts came through the Cancer Society jail.
Ray Whitton was picked up at Discovery Ford for singing off key in the shower. He says that his time in jail will definitely affect his singing career.
“I’m going to work on my singing and that way I’ll never have to worry about being arrested, at least for that, ever again.”
Whitton was quite surprised when he was picked up but he says it was a pleasant escape from work.
“I wasn’t expecting it but everyone has somebody that has obviously been affected by cancer and what a great way to start the day.”
Sharing a cell with him was fellow Discovery Ford employee, Bonnie Classen, who was picked up for doing donuts in the work parking lot.
Restorative justice will not work in Classen’s case since she says she will continue to do donuts in the parking lot.
Also arrested was Humboldt Public School Principal Clayton Parobec on two charges, calling too many meetings and contributing to the education of children.
Parobec is very proud of his charges and helping out the Cancer Society.
“Anytime you have an opportunity to give back you take advantage of it.”
Calvin Lukan was brought in for working too hard and making everyone else at Modern Meat look bad. Lukan admits that sometimes that is true.
Seven Jail-n-Bails are happening around the province and four naughty and nice events, which are Christmas themed Jail-n-Bails with Santa as the judge and his elves running around to arrest convicts.
