The slick, snowy, wintery weather on Thursday last week resulted in a rash of collisions all over the province, according to the RCMP.
Ten calls for service were made to the RCMP from 6 p.m. Thursday to 6:30 a.m. the following day for a long list of collisions. One of those collisions took place on Highway 16 east of North Battleford, involving a vehicle that collided with a snowplow. No injuries were reported although there was significant damage to the vehicle involved.
The other collisions included:
1. A rollover at 6:24 p.m. in the RM of Cupar that resulted in a fatality.
2. A two vehicle motor vehicle collision in Yorkton with damage to both vehicles but no serious injuries.
3. A single vehicle collision in Yorkton. There were no injuries but there was minor property damage.
4. A semi-truck slid into the ditch at Highway 1 near White City. No injuries and little damage to the vehicle was reported.
5. A single vehicle collision took place on highways 2 and 11 at the junction to the St. Louis Bridge. The roads reported to be quite icy. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
6. A transport truck slid into the ditch near on Highway 39 near Moose Jaw. No injuries or damage was reported.
7. A vehicle struck a deer 10 kilometres west of Indian Head on Highway 1. The vehicle was damaged, but there were no injuries to the driver. The status of the deer was unknown, according to police.
8. A single vehicle rollover occurred three kilometres from the Alberta Border in Pierceland Detachment area. There were no injuries but extensive damage to the vehicle was reported.
9.A single vehicle rollover took place on Highway 16 near Borden. There were no injuriesbut damage to the vehicle. The driver was charged with driving too fast for conditions under the Traffic Safety Act.
The rash of collisions brought out an advisory from the RCMP, which urged motorists to drive according tothe conditions they encounter.They also reminded drivers posted speed limits are for ideal driving conditions only.
The RCMP also encouraged drivers to check the Highway Hotline for the latest information on the status of highways throughout the province.
