In response to council's request last month for additional information in the Battlefords RCMP detachment's monthly reports to the city, the RCMP report for October has reinstated a list of "activities of interest" that members responded to during the month.

Here is a rundown of some of the activities included in the October report, submitted by Sgt. Darcy Woolfitt of Battlefords RCMP to city council Monday.

Oct. 8, RCMP responded to a complaint of a man who had pointed a handgun at a caller and made death threats.

The man was ultimately charged with pointing a firearm (x2), unauthorized possession of a firearm (x2), using a firearm in commission of an offence (x2), and uttering threats (x2). A second adult male was charged with failure to comply with probation and obstruction.

Also Oct. 8, RCMP attended a North Battleford residence and arrested an individual wanted by Lloydminster RCMP for armed robbery. The RCMP's report noted two men were charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking and that a quantity of methamphetamine was located.

The name of the accused was not mentioned in the RCMP report to council, but the media has reported that the individual arrested was North Battleford resident Chase Hamilton, who was the subject of an extensive manhunt following a Sept. 27 incident in Lloydminster.

As reported in the News-Optimist, Hamilton pled guilty last week in North Battleford to possession of meth in connection to the Oct. 8 arrest, as well as separate mischief and breach charges, and was sentenced to 45 days jail and a $500 fine. Hamilton remains in custody for more serious armed robbery charges that he faces in Lloydminster.

Members responded Oct. 16 to several complaints of a gunshot heard on the 1400 block of 107th Street. Members immediately attended the area and began vehicle and foot patrols, and the area where the complainant heard a noise and saw a flash was checked as well, but no casings were found.

Oct. 19 around 1:30 p.m., members received a complaint of five to six people fighting in a yard. Members attended and located three people all known to one another, who were intoxicated and fist fighting. One man was taken to hospital for medical treatment and all refused to co-operate with any police investigation.

Oct. 29, a 26-year old man appeared in provincial court and was sentenced on charges related to an RCMP drug investigation from March 19, 2013. As a result of the investigation a search warrant was executed and the individual, reported in the media as Rueben James Ehikhamen, was ultimately sentenced to three years in a federal penitentiary and a lifetime firearms prohibition, possession for the purpose of trafficking marijuana, possession of a controlled substance psilocybin mushrooms, possession of a firearm knowing the serial number had been removed, possession of proceeds of crime Canadian currency exceeding $5,000 and breach of undertaking.

Oct. 30, in the afternoon, RCMP members also executed a mental health warrant at a residence on the 800 block of 108th Sreet, where they were confronted by a 61-year-old woman wielding a knife. Police report that while distracted by the arresting officer, a second officer was able to take control of the woman's arm and remove the knife from her grip without injury to the suspect or any of the officers. Police report charges are pending.

Later that night at 8:30 p.m., members received a 911 call indicating an individual who was moving had returned home and found her front door wide open. The individual was unsure if anyone was in the house, but members attended and further investigation found nothing was missing and nothing had been disturbed in the residence.

The Battlefords RCMP detachment also reported that during October approximately 86 occurences involving intoxicated individuals creating issues in personal residences or in public were dealt with by members.

The monthly report also noted the detachment logged four foot patrols during the month of October, and also reported numerous vehicle patrols to ensure a visible presence.
