RCMP advises caution on highways around Maidstone

Wednesday afternoon, RCMP were advising all motorists driving around Maidstone to be extremely careful, as Highway 16 and 21 were both in treacherous condition and have seen large numbers of jack-knifed semis, rollovers and vehicles in the ditch.

By Wednesday afternoon the Northwest had been blasted with four snowfalls beginning Saturday creatin havoc on area roads. The scene above was a familiar one through the region, with this particular driver finding his misfortune at an intersection near Armada. Wednesday afternoon, RCMP were advising all motorists driving around Maidstone to be extremely careful, as Highway 16 and 21 were both in treacherous condition and have seen large numbers of jack-knifed semis, rollovers and vehicles in the ditch.

Highway 16 in particular was covered in snow and ice. The Department of Highways has been contacted and is assisting, but motorists are still advised by the RCMP to use extreme caution.

Motorists are encouraged to slow to 60 km/h when passing emergency vehicles that may be on the road, and are advised to check the Saskatchewan highway hotline before traveling to be sure about conditions. It can be reached at 1-888-335-7623, or by texting *ROAD (*7623).
